Deerskin gloves: Imperfectly perfect

Made available in the market today are different varieties of gloves. There are gloves made out of latex, cotton, rubber, nitrile and synthetic materials. And there are gloves made out of good old leather. Leather gloves are not new to glove wearers. They are usually the ones made easily available in the market and are the ones people are most familiar with. But did you know that leather gloves also come in variety? Like most leather products, leather gloves may be made with different animal skins. One of the most popular materials is the animal hide from deer. This material is called deerskin.

Deerskin gloves are not easy to manufacture. The process of making deerskin suitable for use in making leather goods is meticulous and tedious. Because of this, manufacturers who work with deerskin should be masters in the craft. Deerskin gloves, just like other deerskin goods, cannot be mass produced as easily as other leather gloves and commodities. This makes deerskin goods more valuable and much harder to find. However, with the advent of new technology more and more manufacturers have mastered the art of working with deerskin. Glove manufacturers who have perfected the process of using deerskin have introduced gloves that are soft and durable. In fact, a good pair is relatively stronger, softer and more comfortable than other gloves. They also last quite a long time.

Although a great pair is much harder to find, there are quite a number who prefer leather gloves made from the said material. Why is this, you might ask.. For starters, deerskin is stronger and easier to stretch. You know you have a perfect pair when there is greater elasticity crosswise than lengthwise. This means that the best pair of deerskin gloves easily stretches when the wearer grabs or grips something but the sheaths for the fingers do not become loose. Therefore, the fit is very snug whatever the wearer may do. Aside from that, deerskin is characterized by uniquely and naturally woven fiber that allows it to provide the wearer with better protection from cuts and abrasions. This characteristic also enables deerskin to be soft as well as versatile in various weather conditions. This means to say that the gloves are relatively cooler when warm and warmer when cold. This makes deerskin a superior material to work with.

Deerskin naturally looks more rugged than other leather skins. Do not worry when your gloves’ surface look somewhat grainy. This is natural for deerskin. It is also natural for the material to have scratches and marks. Texture may vary from glove to glove but this too is expected of deerskin. These markings and other variation add to the distinctiveness of each product. As mentioned, there is no need to worry about such distinctive features as these do not affect the durability and comfort of the items. This being said, be wary of supposed gloves from deerskin that are blemish-free and smooth. These may be made out of synthetic leather or may have been processed incorrectly.

Deerskin gloves are indeed good investments. They are valuable and naturally unique. They provide protection without compromising comfort. And they last for a long time. If you have no qualms about wearing leather and you want to reap the benefits of wearing deerskin, then go for the real ones. They are worth spending for.
