In early 1940, American designers began to include sweaters and other knitwear into their collections. British design houses, more heavily influenced by the French and Italian houses, followed with cashmere knitwear in their collections as well.
The following facts will help you determine the quality of the cashmere you own or may contemplate purchasing:
1. Any fur gathered from the underside, back and legs of a cashmere goat can be labeled as cashmere
2 . There are 10 goat breeds that produce cashmere wool, the highest quality breed exists in Inner Mongolia
3. Highest quality fur is gathered from the underbelly and throat and is the longest fur
4. If your cashmere garment sheds or pills it is probably made from leg or back fur
5. The highest quality cashmere is super, super soft and light feeling
6. Fully fashioned garment as opposed to cut and stitched, most evident in the join of sleeve to bodice. These seams, similar to those on a baseball, are called fashion marks

I made this purchase as a gift for my daughter. She is expecting her first child. I wanted to buy her something that would cheer her up. Amy, that’s my daughter, is getting to that size where nothing seems to fit and, as a result, she was becoming a little depressed. When I saw this on Amazon I ordered it right away. Amy loves it. It is soft, feminine and flattering. The draped open front and gathered detail at the back and cuffs are a great touch, giving the garment just the right look!

This is a great gift for an expectant mother. The price is very reasonable. The garment is super soft, feminine and flowing. It flatters any figure. I recommend it constantly to friends! If I have any complaint, it is that one color is not enough!

Splendid Women’s Shadow Stripe Cardigan
After wearing this sweater a short time, I began to notice shedding and pilling. My experience tells me that this is a common problem with wools of inferior quality. Given the price paid, I am disappointed with this garment’s fabric quality. I’ve purchased cashmere items from Splendid in the past and had no problems.
Recommendation / Conclusion
I can’t recommend this garment from a fabric standpoint, but it is a beautiful design and an otherwise great cardigan.
